With a short drive you can be on Lake Michigan proper for some great Salmon and trout action or fly fish for trout in the Boardman river that passes right though downtown Traverse City.

I found that not only is the area visitor friendly, but the people will go out of their way to make you feel welcome.  I was able to spend time on the phone and even contact via text with Chris Noffsinger of Northern Adventures guide service. He was a wealth of knowledge and offered up help without pressuring me to buy a guide trip with him. How many guides would give you details on where and what of the fishing in the area? Not many, but Chris was happy to help put me on fish.

Not only will you run into knowledgeable people such as Chris, but I had the opportunity to fish next to fishing personality and pro Mark Zona.  Mark Zona is a big name in the fishing world and it was an honor to be able to chat on the water with people like Mark and Chris to pick their brains.

With the seasons changing and Fall coming upon us it is a good time to start to make plans for a quick get-away.  Traverse City is a destination that everyone should think about for their Fall plans.  From the beautiful scenery to the great fishing, as well as the incredible downtown breweries there is a lot to offer.

Mr. Michael Norton with the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau has sent me a little intro to what is going on this fall in the area:

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — Autumn can be a wonderful time to save money and receive great value on a vacation getaway, thanks to the Fab Fall getaway special being promoted by Traverse City Tourism, the visitor marketing organization for Michigan’s “True North.”

From Sept. 2 through Dec. 19, visitors can enjoy special Fab Fall rates at more than 20 resorts and hotels, plus discounts on shopping, dining, wine purchases, movies, spa services, golf, entertainment and family fun and more.

The specials must be directly booked through participating hotels. (Just make sure to ask for the Fab Fall special.) For more information, including a detailed description of all the goodies and a list of participating hotels, go to http://www.traversecity.com/fab-fall-packages-485/

Autumn is an enchanting time in Traverse City — the perfect season for a visit to the magnificent Sleeping Bear Dunes or a romantic getaway in what’s become famous as one of America’s top “foodie” towns.

Come to think of it, falI is a wonderful time for a shopping adventure, a round of championship golf, or an excursion to the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay wine country. (TripAdvisor.com calls this one of America’s Top 10 Fall Foliage Destinations!)

Think about your Fall plans now and don’t rule out a trip to Pure Michigan.
